Melanie Stones' Authentic and Ethical Diamonds
Feelings can be mixed when it comes to diamonds.
They are the symbol of eternal love, of nobility. But in our minds, they are also associated with trade that has given rise to human rights abuses.
The Kimberley Process (KP) was launched in May 2000 in Kimberley, South Africa, to stop and prevent the trade in "conflict diamonds".
- The Kimberley Process brings together administrations, civil and industrial societies with the aim of reducing the existence of conflict diamonds.
- The PK brings together 82 countries, including Canada, which has been a member since its creation.
- The United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union are also part of it.
- KP members account for approximately 99.8% of the world's rough diamond production. Under the Kimberley Process, certified diamonds can only be traded between signatory countries.
- The PK is supported by a United Nations mandate.
The growing popularity of lab-grown diamonds, which are very similar to real diamonds but at a much lower cost, has not influenced Melanie Stones in its choice to offer only genuine diamonds.
I firmly believe that the symbolism of the "queen of stones" associated with the soul, perfection and beauty, dominates the intention of the purchaser, as long as he is reassured about its provenance.
